SPHENOID
Collectively the triptych is titled Sphenoid. Individually they are named 'Twenty', 'Twenty One' and 'Twenty Two' each representing a significant year of this medical journey.
"Twenty' encapsulates emotions of confusion, uncertainty, fear and even curiosity felt following the discovery of a 40mm lesion located in the sphenoidal sinus area of the skull.
"Twenty One' portrays the feeling of shock both to body and mind. Waking post surgery to the realisation of what was a relatively simple biopsy had resulted in a 5 hour operation where surgeons had to stop the procedure due to poor visibility caused by excessive blood loss and dangers surrounding the tumours close proximity to the brain.
'Twenty Two' expresses aggression. Anger at the remainder of the tumour and it's continuance to grow. Fear masked as aggression at the inevitability of a second surgery and the mixed emotions of what theatre does to one's psyche.
